Thursday Cemetery Door

A while back I photographed these doors and wondered if it would be appropriate to share with Norm and others who love our Thursday Doors challenge. I find this mausoleum stunning and decided I would post along with a few other images I captured. Beauty is everywhere…

  1. You’ll find lots of nice doors and other artistic photo opportunities in cemeteries. It may seem morbid to some but I love visiting these places when I go to a new town. What better way to get a feel for the history of a place than through those who lived there?
The general consensus on cemetery photography is that as long as it’s done in a tasteful non-exploitative way it will usually be seen as a nice tribute. The fact that you’re actually aware of and thinking of the need to be respectful is a confirmation that you’re on the right path.
    Very nice shots 🙂

    • Thanks Norm. We actually have tours of local cemeteries as well as one well known Richmond cemetery that offers daily tours. It is gorgeous and lush and peaceful….and I plan to revisit soon. Thank you for your comments.

  2. I have a love of cemeteries and have posted about them on several occasions. It never occurred to me that it could be interpreted as disrespectful. I find them a quiet and peaceful oasis – a place to contemplate history and time.

Mausoleums are particularly interesting – especially when you find one that also has a really interesting name like Mason-Minor. I loved the doors.
