garden inspection

Does anyone else inspect their plants and flowers following a trip away? I'm always excited, and sometimes anxious, about what awaits me in the garden at this time of year. I just returned to a few beautiful blooms and several flowers awaiting their triumphant presentations. Although a winter girl at heart, spring certainly makes me smile with its everchanging landscapes.

i've missed you
my quiet garden space
in mere days
you've grown in leaps
and blooms.

checking each shrub
and plant
and flower
i see how busy
you've been and are.

feeders and baths
newly refilled
delighted birds sense
the promise
of lush summer living.

warmer air tugs
around tall, strong stems
encoraging a peak
at the colorful
wardrobe of spring.

inspired by these promises of hollyhock, yarrow, purple coneflower, and hydrangea.

  1. This time of year, being stuck inside for a couple rainy days means we face lots of new changes outside. We don’t specifically check but are often surprised. I like your photos.

  2. I inspect the flowers and bushes and trees in a casual way almost every day when I go to get the mail. However, I don’t know that I’ve ever gone on vacay and then deliberately checked the garden. Probably should do that, huh?
