we have a row of crepe myrtles with this very color (and some white) – but we did not trim them this year and I do notice a difference with their blooming when they do not get trimmed. Hmmmm – anyhow, great prose for this rich summer flower

They definitely need a year to recover from trimming but will bounce back the next season.

I know it is used often, but the healthy pruning analogy for humans came to mind as I read your comment just now – because we humans truly need some seasons of trimming – and then recovery time – to sometimes reach our best potential….
