I know nothing about the art of model trains. I do enjoy seeing them very much and while visiting Fleabody’s antique store in Wilmington, Mr. E’ville and I happened upon this rather large display. Unfortunately I did not take a photo of the entire table holding this small town, but I did investigate the homes and shops within. There was no identifying information about the designer or how long it took them to fabricate this Appalachian town. I did read a bit more about train scales here and learned how the scales changed throughout the decades to satisfy the model train designer’s desires for a more compact and space saving hobby experience.

I would imagine creating these small scale cities and towns brings a satisfaction similar to doing jigsaw puzzles, a favorite hobby of this E’ville girl, but a much grander scale. Thank you Dan for hosting us and I look forward to your comments as I think you are a model train enthusiast. And how ironic we are on the same wavelength this week! 🚂I’m looking forward to visiting the other Thursday Doors enthusiasts’ posts from around the globe. Until next time…🚪

My dad was very into model trains and had a large set-up. These photos bring back good memories. So much detail!

I do love model train layouts, and I appreciate the planning and effort that goes into them. I like the businesses represented in the town. These are great pictures.

Thanks, Dan. This setup makes me realize the fine details, and persistence, essential to small scale creations.

I had a friend who built several model railroads over time. Hie last one was N-scale, and there is a lot of research involved. He was in England, but did an American layout. We sent him some things that he couldn’t easily purchase.

We used to go to lots of model railways when my son was small so I still have an affection for them xx

We only had the wooden Thomas The Tank Engine track and cars for my son and daughter, but Mr. E’ville has fond memories of these electric trains.

I thoroughly enjoy all things trains and have seen a number of model trains. But this construction is on whole other level of epic realism, skill and yes patience to put together. Thank you for the information and the wonderful photos. I like that shed!

The shed is special, I agree with you Suzette. I’m kicking myself for not capturing the entire setup.
