Thursday River View Farm Doors, #thursdaydoors

Here in Virginia, the colors of autumn are loudly speaking of the turning season. As I've shared so often, this is my time of year and I am grateful to live in this beautiful Blue Ridge backdrop where every day is magical. This morning I did a quick duck into the Ivy Creek Natural Area where River View Farm rests. River View Farm was built over several decades by the Carr family after Hugh Carr acquired the first 50+ acres in 1870. Hugh and his wife, Texi Mae Hawkins, grew the property to over 125 acres while raising their seven children there. The eldest Carr daughter, Mary Louise Carr, later married Conly Greer and both went on to flourish in the Albemarle County educational and agricultural extension systems. The Carr and Greer family names are well known in this area with schools named after both Carr and Greer. To read a bit more about this historic homestead and the Carr and Greer legacies, visit here and here. I was unable to get photos of the home today due to an event but the barn was wide open for me. For larger images, please click on each photograph.

Thank you for taking a walk with me through these hallowed grounds. If you'd like to explore other doors from around the globe, please visit Dan of No Facilities, our Thursday Doors host. Until next time...🚪
