With the turn of a page

we turn a corner, turn off the air, turn up the football

packing up white shoes, bathing suits, and Coppertone

in exchange for boots, candy corn, and hot tea.

While revising our themes, so do our gardens,

shedding rosey pinks and plump greens

for glowing reds and vibrant yellows

that slowly crisp to browns.

In two more pages we will edit once more

by layering our sweaters and

then our gardens in preparation for

breath marked air and brilliant whites.
