in the way, way down

amongst the leaves
treasures lie
visible only
to the curious eye.

cold weather snap
brings crisp and brown
yet lush and green
in the way, way down.

tender mosses
grow velvet parks
adhering to fallen,
decaying barks.

creepy crawlies
have gone to sleep
snuggled low
resting deep.

acorn hats
are scattered where
they lost the nuts
that held them there.

i see your footsteps
and tread with care
while walking the woods
on paths we share.

i'll cover you up
until next i roam
amongst the leaves
your hidden home.
inspired by a warm, winter, wooded walk
